When it comes to dealing with acne, there are two key ingredients that are clinically proven to address your blemishes: salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. And with our CLENZIderm M.D.® system, you’re getting them both in an easy-to-use, three-step system.
This system, featuring 2% salicylic acid and 5% benzoyl peroxide, is specifically formulated for acne-prone skin. P. acnes—the bacteria that causes acne— flourishes deep in the pores, making it difficult to reach. CLENZIderm M.D. is uniquely formulated to target acne at the source.
What is Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic acid is a favorite when it comes to banishing blemishes, because it has the unique ability to clear up the skin while providing soothing relief at the same time. It’s a type of beta hydroxy acid (BHA), that works to clear up the skin by exfoliating and dislodging stubborn skin cells that can clog pores and result in pimples. And because Salicylic acid is widely known to defend from oxidative stress, which is largely the mechanism for its soothing benefits?
What is Benzoyl Peroxide?
This powerful acne ingredient, also known as BPO, works on all kinds of acne lesions by effectively targeting and killing acne-causing bacteria in the pores. Benzoyl peroxide also helps to exfoliate and remove the buildup of dead skin cells and sebum from the pores.
Pairing Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide
We recommend using systems with both ingredients as part of a complete and balanced acne treatment regimen. This has shown to be highly effective, with benzoyl peroxide actively targeting bacteria, while salicylic acid gently exfoliates.
The CLENZIderm M.D. Daily Care Foaming Cleanser and CLENZIderm M.D. Pore Therapy contain 2% salicylic acid, while the CLENZIderm M.D. Therapeutic Lotion contains 5% benzoyl peroxide. Unlike many common forms of benzoyl peroxide, which have a difficult time penetrating the skin, this form is solubilized, meaning it penetrates the pores more easily to make it more effective at targeting bacteria.
When incorporating these ingredients into your regimen, it’s important to start slowly. Because excessive drying of the skin may occur, start with one application daily, then gradually increase to two or three times daily if needed or as directed by a doctor. If bothersome dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application to once a day or every other day. Stop use and ask a doctor if irritation becomes severe. If going outside, apply sunscreen after using this system. If irritation or sensitivity develops, stop use and consult a doctor. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help, or contact a Poison Control Center right away. For external use only.
