About Us: FAQ

Where can I find a doctor who sells Obagi?

Visit our physician finder at https://www.obagi.com/hcpfinder and enter in your zip code to find a physician near you. If you are looking for a specific product, click on the Advanced Search and select the product(s). Then click on the Update Search button.

I live outside the US, where can I buy Obagi?

Please visit our website at https://www.obagi.com/international and find your country. Contact the distributor directly to find out where you can purchase Obagi products. If your country isn’t listed, we unfortunately do not have a distributor in that area at this time.

Can I purchase Obagi® products online?

Certain physicians do choose to resell Obagi and other products online. While we do not maintain a list of those sites, we do advise that you avoid these unauthorized sites: https://obagi.com/patients/about-us/genuine-obagi.

Can I place an order online or directly through Obagi?

We do not sell our products online; we only sell to approved physicians. Please visit our website at https://www.obagi.com/hcpfinder and enter in your zip code to find a physician near you.

You do not sell Obagi in my area, is there any way to get it?

Unfortunately, we only sell Obagi to approved physicians’ offices or through an appointed international partner, but we are always working to expand our distribution. We encourage you to check back at a later time to see if we have Obagi in your area.

How much do the products cost?

Contact your local skin care physicians for pricing information.

Can I return the product that I purchased from my physician’s office to Obagi Corporate?

You should work directly with the office from which you purchased the product. Obagi sells only to physicians and therefore does not process returns from consumers.

Do Obagi® products have a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back?

We do not dictate the return policy physicians’ offices have with their patients. If you wish to return a product for any reason, please contact the office where you purchased it to find out what their policy is on returns.

What are the requirements to sell Obagi® products?

We require that there be a Medical Director on every account. The Medical Director must have both a valid Medical license and a DEA license from the state in which they will sell the products in order to open an account. If you meet these requirements, please let us know where you are located so we can have a local sales representative contact you.

If you are located outside of the US, please visit https://www.obagi.com/international, and search for your country. If your country is included on the list, you will find our distributors’ information for that area. Contact the distributor directly to discuss opportunities in your area. If there is not currently a distributor in your area, please submit your request to international@obagi.com.

What product would work best for my skin type?

Because everyone has different skin, the best thing to do is talk to your skin care physician about what's best for you and your unique skin care needs. If you'd like to get an overview of our products, view the product pages on our website: https://www.obagi.com/patients/product-line.

Is Obagi good for my skin type/color?

We have an Obagi® product for every skin type. Please meet with your skin care physician to find out which Obagi products are best for you. You can also get an overview of our products here: https://obagi.com/patients/product-line.

I think I am experiencing a bad reaction to your products. What should I do?

Everyone responds differently while using our products – this is why working with a skin care professional is so important. You should immediately call your physician to talk about what you are experiencing, and please report the adverse reaction by calling 800-636-7546, option 1.

Can I use any of the products some way other than what it is intended for?

You should use our products as your physician has directed. If you have questions, please consult your physician.

Can I use the product while I am pregnant or nursing?

Check with your physician regarding any topical products you wish to use during pregnancy or while you are nursing.

Is it unsafe to use a product after its expiration date? Or is it just not as effective?

We do not recommend using any products past their expiration dates. The stability testing done to determine the product expiration date doesn’t reveal what the product safety or efficacy would be past the expiration date or how long after the expiration date the product would remain effective.

How do I use the products in the Obagi Nu-Derm® or Obagi-C® Rx systems?

All of the product usage instructions and safety information are included in the Patient Instruction Guide, which is provided either by your physician or as part of the system. If you did not receive this from your physician, give him or her a call and ask for specific directions, as usage may vary based on your skin care condition/needs.

Can I substitute or add products in a system regimen?

Because physicians may often customize regimens, it is very important that you work with that professional before modifying your skin care routine or switching out products.

How should I use Obagi Hydrate® moisturizers?

We recommend using Obagi Hydrate on an as-needed basis when you require relief from dryness/dry skin during your transformation process.

What should I expect when using the Obagi Nu-Derm® system? Is flaking and redness normal?

If you'd like to get an overview on what to expect during your Obagi Nu-Derm transformation process, please visit http://omp.md/new-to-nu-derm.

Can I modify the system to fit my desires (ie. No peeling and keep my freckles)?

We suggest speaking with your skin care physician if you wish to use the system in a way other than what’s indicated. At that time you can also let them know that you would like to achieve.

How long should I use Obagi Nu-Derm® products or hydroquinone products?

Because everyone’s skin and transformation is different, we suggest speaking with your skin care physician about what is best for your individual needs.

How quickly will I see results when using the Obagi Nu-Derm® system? What should I expect?

Everyone reacts differently during the transformation process, and your individual prescribed protocol and frequency of use should be determined by your skin care physician. If you’d like more information as you begin the Obagi Nu-Derm System, please sign up for our New to Nu-Derm program: http://www.obagi.com/patients/product-line/nu-derm/new-to-nu-dermPlease speak with your doctor if you have any additional concerns. Please visit http://obagi.com/patients/product-line/nu-derm/overview for Important Safety Information related to the Obagi Nu-Derm system.

How do I maintain results after using the Obagi Nu-Derm® system?

Have you signed up for our Obagi Nu-Derm Continuum program: http://obagi.com/patients/product-line/nu-derm/continuum? It’s a personalized skin care maintenance plan that you develop with your skin care physician to help maintain your Obagi Nu-Derm results.

Because everyone has different skin, physicians prescribe a specific Obagi Nu-Derm maintenance plan depending on the patient’s skin type and results. Since your skin care specialist knows your skin better, you should discuss your options with them.

Why don’t certain products have an expiration date? When do they expire?

Cosmetic products are not required to have a printed expiration date. The expected shelf life of a cosmetic product is 12 to 36 months depending on storage and if opened/used. We recommend replacing the product after it has been open for one year.

What skin concerns do your products address?

We have products that address a variety of skin concerns including hyperpigmentation, acne, dry skin, eye area, look of fine lines and wrinkles, prevention and protection, skin recovery, skin texture, signs of aging, and sensitive skin. You can check out all of our products here: http://obagi.com/patients/product-line, and we recommend you visit your skin care physician to discuss your options. To find a doctor in your area, visit our website at www.obagi.com/hcpfinder and enter in your zip code.

How do I apply for a job at Obagi?

Any job openings we have will be posted here: http://obagi.com/patients/about-us/careers. We encourage you to check periodically for new openings.

    Do you give out samples?

Many of our products are available only by a prescription and are offered by physicians, medical spas, and other skin care and medical professionals. Therefore, we don't provide samples – but you have options! First, you can check out www.obagi.com/hcpfinder to find a skin care physician near you who carries Obagi to discuss your options. Do you test on animals?

Unless mandated by the FDA for drug safety purposes, Obagi does not test its products on animals. Non-prescription Obagi products have not been tested on animals.

Are your products vegan or gluten-free?

We cannot guarantee that any of our products are vegan or gluten-free. If you’d like ingredient information, please contact us at inquiries@obagi.com and let us know which product(s) you are inquiring about specifically.

Why are your products different or unavailable in my state?

Due to state regulations, prescription drug products generally may not be sold in physicians’ offices in select states including Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, and Texas. Select Obagi® products contain prescription-based ingredients, and thereby are not available for purchase in physicians’ offices in these 5 states. Please talk to your skin care physician for more information and discuss alternative, non-prescription options that may be right for you.

What is the difference between the Obagi Nu-Derm® and Obagi-C® Rx systems?

Obagi Nu-Derm is a correction system for skin that is showing signs of aging and photodamage, including age spots, rough skin, dull complexion, and discoloration. It corrects hyperpigmentation and melasma with prescription 4% hydroquinone. Please visit https://www.obagi.com/patients/product-line/nu-derm/ for Important Safety Information related to the Obagi Nu-Derm system.

Obagi-C Rx is an early intervention system that reduces hyperpigmentation with prescription 4% hydroquinone and helps address other signs of skin aging caused by photoaging. It is recommended for patients who are seeking a more simplified system with fewer steps. Please visit https://www.obagi.com/patients/product-line/obagi-c-rx-system for Important Safety Information related to the Obagi-C Rx system.

Please talk to your skin care physician to see which system may be right for you.

How is Obagi Nu-Derm FxTM different from regular Obagi Nu-Derm®?

They contain different ingredients and have different benefits. Obagi Nu-Derm Fx is an effective, skin-brightening option with arbutin for some skin concerns. If you are interested in regular Obagi Nu-Derm with hydroquinone to treat melasma, please ask your skin care physician if the system is right for you. Please visit http://obagi.com/patients/product-line/nu-derm/overview for Important Safety Information related to the Obagi Nu-Derm system.

What is the difference between Obagi Nu-Derm® Clear and Blender®?

The Obagi Nu-Derm System includes two products with 4% hydroquinone: Clear and Blender. It’s important to use both products every day because each has specific ingredients and different pH levels that work together as part of a system to deliver the best possible chance of success for your skin.

Typically, Clear is applied in the morning and evening and Blender is applied in the evening.

What is the difference between the three concentrations of Professional-CTM Serums? How do I know which one is right for me?

It depends on your skin type. 10% is recommended for sensitive skin, 15% is suitable for most skin types, and 20% is best suited for normal to oily skin.

What color is Professional-CTM Serum supposed to be?

It should be anywhere from clear to yellow in color. If it is a darker yellow, the product has oxidized.

Do the Professional-CTM Serums expire? Mine is discolored.

The Professional-C Serums do not have an expiration date as they are cosmetic – the color change happens due to oxidation. We recommend replacing the product if it has oxidized, or after it has been open for one year.

What is the difference between the ELASTIderm® Eye Cream and Serum?

The serum contains caffeine to address the appearance of under eye puffiness, and the packaging consists of rollerball technology for product application. The cream does not contain caffeine and comes in a jar.

What color should ELASTIderm® Eye Cream be?

    Pale blue

What color should the Obagi Nu-Derm® Gentle Cleanser and Foaming Gel be?

The Gentle Cleanser is yellow and the Foaming Gel is pink.

What is the color of Obagi Hydrate® and Obagi Hydrate Luxe®?

Obagi Hydrate is white and Obagi Hydrate Luxe is pale yellow.

What is the difference between Sun Shield Matte Cool and Warm Tint? Which shade should I purchase?

Sun Shield Tint Cool shade is for skin with bluish, red, or pink undertones (pale, fair skin types). Sun Shield Tint Warm shade is for skin with yellowish, golden, or olive undertones (darker complexions).

Which of your sunscreens are non-comedogenic?

All Sun Shield sunscreens and Professional-CTM Suncare Broad Spectrum SPF 30.

Do you use nanoparticles in your sunscreens?

We are aware of the debates and concerns surrounding this topic and continue to monitor it closely. The size definition of a nanoparticle range between 1-100 nanometers in size and our products are above this size.

What is the difference between Blue Peel RADIANCE® and Blue Peel®?

Blue Peel Radiance provides a gentle but effective peel as it exfoliates superficially, with little to no downtime. It provides instant radiance – tighter, smoother, brighter-looking skin after one use. However, you would most likely need a series of 4 to 6 peels for best overall results. The Blue Peel goes deeper and is for more severe skin damage, such as discoloration, wrinkles, large pores, laxity, and roughness. There will be a short recovery period with little or no pain.
