LONG BEACH, Calif., September 20, 2006– Obagi Medical Products, Inc. (OMP), a
leader in developing and marketing specialty skin health products to physicians,
has initiated a multi-center, randomized-blinded clinical study evaluating wound
healing and scar cosmesis in patients with superficial basal cell carcinoma
(sBCC) when using their Nu-Derm® Condition and Enhance System before and after
electrodessication and curettage (ED&C).
The study’s treatment protocol was structured in cooperation with the key
Clinical Investigators, Drs. David M. Pariser, James M. Spencer, Kenneth G.
Gross, Suzanne Bruce and Robert Loss. "Treatment of superficial basal cell
carcinoma by ED&C is a commonly performed procedure by almost all
dermatologists. Any well designed study that demonstrates a way to accelerate
healing and decrease scarring will be a welcome development", said Dr. Pariser,
Director of the Virginia Clinical Research, Inc and Professor of Dermatology at
Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia
Steve Carlson, OMP’s CEO states, “Based on the anecdotal clinical reports from
numerous physicians both domestically and internationally, OMP anticipates this
clinical study will demonstrate increased rates of re-epithelialization,
improved healing, and better wound cosmesis with the use of the Nu-Derm®
System. Ultimately, our goal as a Company, is to improve the patient outcome
and this study will help define more appropriate therapeutic approaches to wound
healing”.
